Meitsje

Designed and made by Mel Postma in Dunedin. Meitsje means “to make”, “to create”, “to fix” in the West Frisian language, which is a nod to Mel’s heritage.

I rediscovered my love for making after having studied jewellery design in Melbourne many years ago. Meitsje is now run out of my studio in my adopted hometown of Otepoti.

The nature of the designs and the processes used, means no two pieces will ever be exactly the same and a limited number of each design is made. Primarily made from sterling silver, brass and polymer clay, other elements such as locally sourced sand and acrylic paints are mixed into the clay to create unique colours and textures you won’t find anywhere else.

My creations are really lightweight and I use high quality metal findings such as sterling silver and hypoallergenic titanium to make the final products incredibly comfortable and easy to wear.
